ALMA, Mich. – The Trine University women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Alma College on Wednesday afternoon in MIAA action.
Erin Scully and
Maggie McDowell netted goals in the win. Trine is now 7-4-4 (3-2-1 MIAA) while sending the Scots to 8-7-1 (0-5-1 MIAA).
Trine held a commanding advantage in shots (20-9), shots on goal (10-4), and corners (4-2). The Thunder took control early, firing five shots in the first 22 minutes, forcing one save. Scully found pay dirt in the 24
th minute on a long shot from nearly 40 yards away, sending the ball to the top right corner of the goal and past the Scots goalie.
Abby Robison kept the pressure on with a shot on goal in the 29
th minute. Trine allowed just two shots in the first half with
Madison Kinneer making the save.
Trine forced four Scot saves in the first 11 minutes of the second half. The fifth shot on goal was from McDowell who won possession on a free kick played into the box and found the low left of the net for the goal. Kinneer made three more saves in the second half to preserve the shutout, her seventh of the season.
Trine returns to Shive Field for their final two regular-season games, the first on Saturday against Saint Mary's College at 3:00 p.m. The regular season finale is set for Tuesday, October 28
th at 7:30 p.m. against The University of Olivet.
