ANGOLA, Ind. –
Abby Robison netted a 13
th minute goal in the Trine University women's soccer team's 1-1 draw with Kalamazoo. It was a beautiful fall evening at Zollner Stadium for Monday Night Fútbol as
Trine moves to 6-4-4 (2-2-1 MIAA), Kalamazoo is now 9-3-4 (3-0-3 MIAA).
Kalamazoo took control early spending the better part of the first five minutes in the Thunder's defensive zone.
Madison Kinneer turned away a pair of shots to preserve the 0-0 score. Trine quickly began their offensive attack after the second save. They immediately ran into a physical Hornet defense that earned two yellow cards in the three minutes. Trine broke through in the 13
th minute when
Taylor Currier played a ball into the Hornets goal box and found a dashing
Abby Robison who got behind her defender and put away the goal in the low right corner. It appeared Trine would add to the lead in the 29
th minute when Robison found
Lilly White in front of the Hornets goal. The pass drew the keeper out of the goal but White won possession she raced to the near post and tapped the ball towards the empty net. A Hornet defender flew in from seemingly nowhere and knocked the ball out of bounds.
The first shot of the second half came in the 64
th minute when the Hornets snuck a shot past the Thunder defense and evened things at one. The remainder of the game was frenzied offensive contest with each team desperately trying to score to avoid the draw. Kinneer turned away two more shots to preserve the tie.
Erin Scully had the Thunder's best offensive opportunity of the half. Scully sent a shot on net from about 20 yards away and forced a leaping save by the Hornets keeper who barely tipped the ball over the net.
Trine heads to Alma College on Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
