ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's soccer team fell 3-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play against Hope College on Saturday night. The Thunder are now 5-4-3 (1-2-0 MIAA) while Hope moves to 9-2-2 (4-0-0 MIAA).
Hope dominated the possession in the early portion of the game, earning a pair of corner kicks in the first ten minutes. The second resulting in a pair of shots. The Dutch converted on their third shot as they bounced a shot off the woodwork and into the goal for a 1-0 lead. Trine responded with some stronger possessions, notching two shots in the 25
th and 31
st minutes. Hope extended the lead to 2-0 in the 36
th minute and took the advantage into the break.
The Dutch kept the heat on in the second half, adding a third goal in the 56
th minute. The Thunder had two scoring opportunities prior to the Dutch goal.
Ava Leihgeber's shot was turned away by the Dutch's goalie and
Abby Robison's was stopped by the Dutch's goal, bouncing off the outside post. Leihgeber had one more scoring opportunity in the 81
st minute but the Dutch goalie was there to make the save.
Trine travels to Adrian on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. clash with the Bulldogs.
