Balanced Offense Secures Lopsided Victory For Women's Basketball

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The 18th ranked Trine University women's basketball team improved to 3-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play after defeating Saint Mary's College in the first game of 2025 by the score of 78-44. 15 different members of the team scored in the contest, with Sidney Wagner leading the way with 16 points.

Over the first six minutes of the contest, the Thunder built a 16-4 lead. The offensive attack was already a balanced one with seven different members of the team scoring. Wagner opened the game with a three pointer and Allison Capouch added another to lead the way. The quarter ended with a 21-10 lead for Trine.

The Thunder increased their lead to 15 by the end of the second quarter, taking a 41-24 score into halftime. Their largest lead of the quarter was 18, which came after a 10-2 run during the middle part of the quarter. Capouch hit back-to-back threes to lead the streak.

Sierra Hinds led off the second half with a three of her own as the team went 7-1, to build their new biggest lead of the game at 48-25 with just under eight minutes remaining in the quarter. Ultimately the team led 58-34 after the quarter.

Wagner accounted for five points early in the final quarter as the team built their lead to 65-35. They gained incrementally the rest of the way to finish the day with the 78-44 victory.

Hailey Cole finished second on the team with 12 points in the contest. In addition to the team-high 16 points, Wagner also led the team with four assists and three steals. Jada Rhonehouse led the team with eight rebounds.

The Thunder finish the day 10-2 overall and 3-0 in MIAA play. They travel to face Alma College for another MIAA matchup in their next game. That contest is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8.
