ALMA, Mich. –
Sidney Wagner headlined a dominant performance for the #18 Trine University Women's Basketball team, turning in 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 steals. Trine outscored Alma in all four quarters enroute to a 60-38 MIAA road victory. Trine is now 11-2 (4-0 MIAA) while the Scots fall to 5-9 (2-3 MIAA).
Trine opened up a 17-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, set up by two triples from Wagner and eight points in the paint.
Katie Tate and
Erin Sherwood scored down low on three consecutive possessions, before Wagner hit her second three pointer of the quarter to take a 13-6 lead.
Trine extended their advantage in the second quarter converting on four free throws and adding four more points in the paint. The Thunder limited the hosts to just seven points as they pulled in 10 rebounds in the quarter.
The Thunder again went to work down low in the third quarter with eight more paint points, opening the quarter on a 17-4 run before Alma scored seven points in the final minute to cut the lead to 18.
Trine slammed the door in the fourth quarter with a 10-4 run, again piling on points down low, while
Allison Capouch and
Sidney Wagner added triples to bury the Scots and take the 60-38 victory.
Trine returns to the MTI Center on Saturday for a massive MIAA contest against #15/22 Hope. That game is set for a 3:00 p.m. tipoff.
