Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Lake Forest Too Much for Women's Hockey

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Trine University women's hockey team came up short of their hosts from Lake Forest College, falling 3-1 in the first game of the weekend series.

Neither team scored in the first period, but it wasn't for lack of effort especially by the home team. The Foresters recorded 17 shots on goal during the period, with Annie Kindseth keeping the game scoreless with 17 corresponding saves. She ultimately finished with 39 saves.

The tide finally broke through the dam in the second period, with Lake Forest scoring three times to take the 3-0 lead. Their first goal came with an advantage while the other two both came in the 19th minute of the stanza.

The score held until late in the third period. The Thunder were down a skater due to penalty, but forced an offensive zone faceoff with a breakout on defense. Kailey Mleko took the faceoff and won it toward the slot where Lauren Lacroix was able to settle it and score past the near side blocker of the opposition's goalie.

The Thunder fall to 6-10-2 overall and 3-6-2 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play. They will look to bounce back tomorrow, Saturday, January 25. That game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. CT / 3 p.m. ET.
