#13 Thunder Roll Past Comets

ANGOLA, Ind. – Three players scored in double figures as the #13 Trine University Women's Basketball team extended its win streak to seven with a 73-52 defeat of The University of Olivet Comets on Wednesday evening. Sierra Hinds, Sidney Wagner, and Allison Capouch all scored in double figures as the Thunder rolled to a 15-2 (8-0 MIAA) record, Trine closes the first half of the conference schedule unbeaten in MIAA play. Olivet falls to 5-12 (2-6 MIAA).

The Thunder started hot on both ends of the floor, they raced out to a 10-0 advantage scoring all 10 in the paint. Hinds and Wagner hit threes and then defense became offense with Addison Hutson taking one the distance for an and-one. Zoe Willems then grabbed a steal of her own and took it the length of the court. The next possession Alexis Snodgrass grabbed a loose ball, fought off two Comets, and then sent it ahead to Capouch who knocked in a layup.

The Thunder upped the ante in the second quarter, opening on an 11-0 run to take a commanding 36-8 lead. The run again starting on the defensive end, Erin Sherwood grabbed a rebound and quickly sent it to Wagner, Wagner led the break and dished to an open Hinds for an easy bucket. Capouch hit the first of four triples off an assist from Hutson. Trine took a 39-19 lead to the break.

Trine continued to pound the ball in low as they took a 24 point advantage midway through the third quarter. Olivet cut the lead to 15, Trine scored the next six to retake control. Trine opened a 27 point lead early in the fourth quarter before both teams emptied the benches.

Trine returns home on Saturday to open the second half of MIAA play against Albion on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. That game is part of a double header with the men's team, who take on Hope following the first game.
