#17 Women's Basketball earns win #150 for Coach Rang

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Erin Sherwood poured in a career-high 20 points to help the #17 Trine University Women's Basketball team deliver Coach Andy Rang his 150th career victory Saturday afternoon. The Thunder took down Kalamazoo 76-50 behind another dominant third quarter performance. Trine sits alone atop the MIAA standings at 14-2 (7-0), Kalamazoo falls to 5-11 (0-7).

Sherwood scored the first four points to help Trine open an 11-3 advantage halfway through the first quarter. Zoe Willems converted an and-one and Allison Capouch nailed a triple and the Thunder lead was 17-5. The game looked like it may get out of hand early, but the Hornets responded by outscoring Trine 18-9 in the second frame. Hailey Cole made a layup and later a free throw to halt a 7-0 Hornet run and preserve the Thunder lead. Kalamazoo scored the final four points of the second quarter.

Trine used a 14-2 run in the middle of the third quarter to take a commanding 22 point advantage. Four different players contributed to the scoring spree. Addison Hutson scored five, Cole nailed a triple, Sherwood had four, and Willems added a layup. Trine stretched the lead to 27 in the fourth quarter behind triples from Sierra Hinds and Hutson. Sherwood secured her first 20 point game with four more fourth quarter points.

The Thunder forced 31 Hornet turnovers, scoring 27 points off of them. They added 38 points in the paint and shot 30-65 (46.5%) from the floor. Trine will stay at home next week with matchups against Olivet on Wednesday and Albion on Saturday. Those games are set to begin at 7:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.
