ANGOLA, Ind. –
Abby Robison buried two second half goals to send the Trine University women's soccer team past Otterbein on a rainy afternoon at Weaver Field. The Thunder improve to 5-2-2 with the win and drop the Cardinals to 5-2-2 as well. Trine has now won four of their last five matches, scoring multiple goals in three of the four victories.
Â
The first half was quiet as the two teams settled into damp field conditions left from a morning shower. Each team fired off two shots before they were able to get one on target. In the 21
st minute Otterbein's Cami McCulty put a shot on goal but was turned away by
Sophie Aschemeier. Trine's first shot on goal came in the 33
rd minute when
Reganne Koskela sent one bottom right but the Cardinals keeper was too quick making a sliding save. Aschemeier made a leaping save in the 42
nd minute to deny the Cardinals final attempt to take a first half lead. The teams headed to intermission tied at nil.
Â
In the second half the pace picked up for each team as they were more confident in the field conditions. But in the 47
th minute the Thunder offense began their second half raid of the Cardinals defense, firing off nine shots putting five on goal. In the 49
th minute Robison put away her first goal courtesy of
Bella Mabry. The rain began falling harder in the 55
th minute but the Thunder were unaffected, continuing their attack of the Cardinals, in the 68
th minute Robison snuck her second goal past the keeper off her left foot into the low left corner of the goal just past the reach of Otterbein's keeper,
Abigail Marks was credited with the assist. The Thunder defense finished the job over the last 20 minutes allowing just two shots and only one on goal.
Â
Trine finished with a 14-9 advantage in shots and 7-3 edge on corner kicks. This concludes the Thunder's non-conference schedule, they being MIAA play on Wednesday, October 2
nd against Albion on Weaver Field.
