ANGOLA, Ind. – Nationally ranked Kenyon College was too much for the Trine University men's soccer team. Despite a fantastic first half by the home side, the fourth-ranked Owls left the field with a 3-0 victory.
The visitors started the match strong forcing the first save of the contest in the opening minutes. They also had a host of offside calls during the first 15 minutes of play, all close to being breakaway opportunities.
The Thunder were undeterred pushing back early and often during the half. Both
Ben Borak and
Brayden Fisher forced saves out of the opposition.
Then after the first round of substitutions for both teams and the water break midway through the half, Trine had the Owls on their heels.
Evan Komrska bounced his shot off the post and
Gavin Hardy went just over the crossbar.
Kenyon recorded the final shot of the half, forcing a second save by Trine and the game went to the intermission scoreless.
The second half was all in favor of the visitors. They scored in the fifth minute to take the lead and never looked back. Kenyon added two more goals in the final 15 minutes to build their final 3-0 victory.
The Thunder fall to 2-4-0 overall following the loss. They will host Wheaton College in their next match which is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25.
