ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's volleyball team swept non-conference foe Manchester 25-22, 25-22, and 29-27, tonight inside Hershey Hall. Trine moves to 10-1 overall while the Spartans fall to 6-6. Senior
Madison Dominick led the Thunder with 10 kills and defending MIAA Specialist of the Week
Anna Zellers led Trine with 16 assists.
Trine took control early in set one, claiming a 5-0 led after some great serves from Zellers. The Spartans fought back to claim a 12-9 lead with a kill from Carley Camp. Trine then used a 4-0 run to reclaim the lead at 14-13. A back and forth battle ensued and the match was tied at 21. Senior
Cassidy Victor sent home two kills and Dominick put the game away with one of her own to take set one 25-22.
The Thunder again took a commanding lead in set two leading 7-1 and 11-6 early. Manchester again battled back to take a late lead. Manchester's Avery Ball notched one of her match high 12 kills to give the Spartans a 22-21 lead off a 6-2 run. The Thunder would not be denied as three Thunder attackers registered kills to complete the comeback 25-22.
In set three Trine found themselves ahead 18-11 and appeared to be on their way to an emphatic victory. Again, Camp and Ball rallied the Spartans back to keep the pressure on the hosts and tied the match at 23. Trine was able to break ties at 23, 24, 25, and 26 before clinching the set with a 29-27 victory.
Trine returns to the friendly confines for a tri-match against DePauw and Marian (Wisc.) Trine takes on DePauw at 1 p.m. and Marian at 5 p.m., the Tigers and Sabres will face off at 3 p.m.
