ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's soccer team fell short of Denison University after the lone goal of the contest went to the visitors in the early minutes of the second half.
Despite an advantage in shots for the Big Red in the first half, the Thunder felt like they had the upper hand.
Abby Robison made multiple early runs deep into the offensive zone, with one of those runs ending in a pair of shots for
Darcy Satkowiak. The first went off a defender before the second forced a save.
All of Denison's shots in the first half came from outside of the 18-yard box and were easy fodder for
Sophie Aschemeier, who played the game in goal for Trine.
Out of the intermission, the Big Red cleaned up their game. They started quickly with two shots on goal that were the first real work for Aschemeier. It paid off in the 51
st minute of the contest when they finally found a corner of the net outside of the senior's reach.
The Thunder did anything but go away quietly.
Abigail Marks made the first move of the half for the team, ending up with the ball inside of the penalty area and forcing a tough save that still left her with a second chance that went just wide.
Erin Scully had a shot a few minutes later that was blocked at the top of the box. Marks had the best chance of the game for the team in the 69
th minute, taking a wide-open shot from just outside the top of the penalty area. It went just high of the crossbar, with the keeper well out of position.
The last 20 minutes of the game saw Denison settle in on defense and keep Trine away from the goal. The 1-0 score eventually went final.
The Thunder fall to 3-2-2 overall following the loss. They are set to hit the road for their next match, traveling to face Anderson University on Wednesday, September 25. Opening kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
