Thunder down Polar Bears in Ada

ADA, Ohio – Freshman Erin Scully notched her first career goal in the 31st minute tonight to give Women's Soccer a 1-0 road victory over Ohio Northern at Kerscher Stadium. Trine improves to 2-1-2 on the season while dropping the Polar Bears to 2-2.

The early portion of the game was controlled by ONU, registering eight shots in the first 26 minutes including three shots on goal. The Thunder defense stood tall and kept the Polar Bears off the scoreboard, Senior Sophie Aschemeier again was masterful in the net stopping all three of ONU's shots that were on target. In the 27th minute Erin Scully subbed into the game and immediately had an impact as just four minutes later she put home her first career goal with an assist from Senior Ashlyn Swartz.

The Thunder defense flexed its muscles in the second half guarding their lead. ONU was able to get nine shots off but only three were on target and Aschemeier turned away all three.
ONU outshot the Thunder 19-4 including 6-3 in shots on goal, but the Thunder made their opportunities count. Northern also held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Head Coach Gary Boughton had this to say about his team's performance "Midweek on the road for the first time is always tough – especially against a good team. I thought we did well keeping the ball but didn't do enough early in the attacking half early."

On Scully's goal: "It was a great goal; we've worked on similar patterns in training and Erin had an unbelievable finish."

The Thunder return to action Saturday for a 3 p.m. tilt with another OAC-foe, squaring off against Capital.
