ANGOLA, Ind. – An early goal for the College of Wooster robbed the Trine University men's soccer team of a win in their first home game of the 2024 season.
The Fighting Scots got on the board with the first shot of the game, coming in the 18
th minute of the first half. The goal came off a midfield turnover on a long shot that caught the keeper out of position.
Halfway through the first half sophomore
Ben Borak took a shot that looked to have a chance of tying the match, but it was blocked by a Wooster defender. Junior
Jarick Aguilar followed up with a nice shot towards the center of the goal, but it was saved by Wooster's Andrew Beazley. Freshmen
Will Offutt and
Dalton Douglas also got in on the action, both recording shots toward goal just before halftime.
The Thunder had four more decent chances with one shot each for
Beckam Pichardo,
Anes Dervisevic,
Mohamed Aljably and Aguilar.
Overall, Trine out shot Wooster, 12-10, but couldn't finish in the back of the net. Wooster was tough at the goal line out saving Trine during the match.
In the waning seconds of the game, the Thunder attempted to get a final shot off of a corner kick but ran out of time. The match ended in a 1-0 loss.
Trine will next take the pitch when they host Otterbein University on Sunday, September 1. That match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
