Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Sherwood, Wagner Earn All-Classic Honors, #18 Thunder Ground Red Hawks

OSHKOSH, WISC. – Four players scored in double figures as #18 Women's Basketball took down Ripon on Monday afternoon. Erin Sherwood led Trine with 13 points and 8 rebounds, while Sidney Wagner pitched in 11 more and the duo claimed All-Classic team honors at the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Winter Classic. Trine is now 9-2 while Ripon falls to 7-3.

Trine pulled away in the second half after a low scoring first half. Ripon made eight free throws in the first quarter to take a slim 12-11 lead after one. Wagner opened things up before the Red Hawks would take the lead for most of the first frame. Allison Capouch hit one of her four triples to cut the deficit to one. Jada Rhonehouse then found Sherwood down low to give the Thunder a 2 point lead.

Trine scored the first seven points of the second quarter and reclaimed the lead. Wagner scored five of the seven. The Red Hawks trimmed the lead to one with just over two minutes remaining. Hailey Cole scored the last 4 points of the half for Trine.

Ripon retook the lead to start the third quarter 25-24. From there Trine closed the quarter on a 17-2 run. Sherwood found Rhonehouse for a triple, then cleaned up the glass on the defensive end and made a layup. Wagner and Cole made baskets and Capouch knocked in another triple. Sherwood then hit a three of her own to quiet the Red Hawks attempt to stop the run.

Ripon again started hot in the fourth quarter, slashing the Thunder lead by half to trail 44-37. Capouch stopped the run with yet another triple. The Thunder then gradually stretched their lead the remainder of the game, limiting the Red Hawks to just one made field goal.

The Thunder return to MIAA play on Saturday, January 4th when they travel to Saint Mary's.
