Synchro Competes at Kalamazoo Kick-off Classic

Kalamazoo, Mich. - On Saturday, November 23, two of Trine University's synchronized skating teams gave strong performances to begin their competitive season at the 2024 Kick-Off Classic, with Collegiate earning a new season's best score and taking home the silver medal, while the Open Collegiate earned the bronze medal.
 
On Saturday, the Collegiate and Open Collegiate teams took the bus up from Angola to Kalamazoo, looking to prove themselves in their first event competing against other Midwest teams. Collegiate competed at one event previously this season in October where they earned a score of 75.75 points. This would be their first event, however, where they would be their category would be contested.
 
Collegiate was up first, making their way down to the locker rooms to get ready to perform. When they went out to compete, they enjoyed receiving the love from a large cheering section of Trine Skating family, friends, and alumni. The team gave an entertaining and electric performance of their Miami Heat themed routine, which includes selections of hit Latin songs by Santana, Gloria Estefan, and Pitbull. The team had one fall outside of an element which affected the components score and gave them a one-point deduction but were able to earn full calls in three of their elements and have overall positive execution scores. With a new season's best score of 82.28 points, the Collegiate team earned second place out of five teams in their division.
 
Next up, the Open Collegiate team was ready to show off their new program for the season to the music of Burlesque. They took the ice looking prepared and confident, set to give the judges a show. The team was energetic as they brought the audience into their fun and flirty routine which included highlight moments in their opening circle and creative line element. At the end of the event, the team was awarded the bronze medal out of seven strong universities.
