The Open Collegiate team completed their 2024-25 competition season with a strong performance of their Burlesque routine. After giving an amazing performance at the Midwestern Sectional Championships that earned them the silver medal, the team was plagued with illness and unfortunate injuries just before their final event. Despite having skaters in new places in the lineup, the team was able to work together and put out a performance to be proud of. Highlights included a well-organized travelling wheel and fast skating in their no-hold element. They were awarded third place and the bronze medal, just missing out of the top two placements by teams with neater performances. The team will give one final performance at Trine Skating's end-of-year ice show. The show will be held at the Thunder Ice Arena at 3pm on April 26th and is free and open to the Trine University and Angola communities.

The Collegiate team gave an energetic performance of their 'Miami Heat' freeskate at the Tri-State Synchronized Skating Competition. Their program included a few small errors on the technical side which lowered their overall score, but there were still moments in the program that reflected the training the team has been putting in. A highlight of the routine was their opening element, the box intersection which earned the team seven points plus an extra 1.17 points based on their excellent execution of the intersection. They also earned three more points in their components score compared to their result from the Midwest Sectional Championships which demonstrates an improvement in their quality of skating, composition of the program, and performance level from the skaters.
Â
With an overall score of 94.20, the collegiate team was happy to earn fourth place and the pewter medal. The team is excited to head to Colorado Springs this week to compete against the 12 best collegiate teams in the country at the 2025 US Synchronized Skating National Championships. This event will be live streamed on Peacock and the Thunder takes the ice around 10pm on Friday, February 28th.
