Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Wild Minute Helps Thunder Top MSOE

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – A stretch of three goals in just over a minute of game time secured a 4-1 victory for the Trine University women's hockey team, taking game one of their series against the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

The Thunder scored their first goal of the game in second period. Abby Martin stole the puck in defensive zone and took it over the redline before passing it forward. Ryleigh White received that pass and skated to the far boards near the faceoff circle. The freshman faked a turn back toward the blueline but instead moved toward the faceoff dot. Her shot struck true over the shoulder of the goalie.

The 1-0 lead lasted into the third period, when the Raiders scored a response.

The game looked destined for overtime, but a minute and eleven seconds of dominating offense put the game out of reach for the home team. The first goal during the stretch came just past the 17 minute mark of the period. A few seconds before that, Hannah Lambers came up with a loose puck in the defensive zone before skating the length of the ice. She went wide of the net and passed the puck behind the keeper and through the crease to Chloe Downey. The freshman took advantage of the wide-open side of the net for her first collegiate goal.

Later in the 18th minute, White won a faceoff to herself in the defensive zone. She went behind the net before passing it up the far boards to Olivia Porthan who in turn passed it toward the center of the ice for Emma-Lyn Stephenson. The sophomore went the rest of the way, skating around one Raider and then through two more defenders and into the high slot. Her shot went off the right post and into the back of the net.

MSOE won the ensuing faceoff, but not cleanly, with Martin taking the puck back behind the blueline. After skating to the far boards, she passed it up the ice to Sydney Streb who weaved through the Raiders before firing a shot on goal from the top of the near circle. The rebound went long off the save, ending in the far circle. Kailey Mleko blasted a shot into the back of the net from there giving the game its final score of 4-1.

Annie Kindseth played the game in net for the Thunder. She finished the game with the victory after making 22 saves, including ten in the second and nine in the third.

Trine improves to 2-2-1 overall and in Northern Collegiate Hockey association (NCHA) play following the regulation victory. They will take on MSOE again tomorrow, Saturday, November 23. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT / 4 p.m. ET.
