Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Hockey Secures Weekend in Shootout

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Trine University women's hockey team secured a series victory after finishing the second game of the weekend against the Milwaukee School of Engineering in a 1-1 tie. The Thunder picked up the fifth point toward the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) standings by winning the shootout following a scoreless overtime.

The Thunder scored first in the contest, but it took until the 17th minute of the second period. Working through the offense, Hannah Lambers passed the puck to Abby Martin on the near side of the blueline. The senior fired a long distance shot at the net which was saved up into the air before falling behind the goalie into the crease. Dorka Gengeliczky pushed it the last foot for the goal, giving the team the 1-0 lead.

The Raiders responded late in the third period to tie the contest at one and force overtime. After neither team scored, they lined up at center ice for a shootout. Only one member of either team found the back of the net, Ryleigh White secured the extra point for the team with her successful attempt.

The three final stops don't count toward the stats, but nonetheless freshman Annie Kindseth played another great game in net for the team. She finished the contest with 29 saves while allowing just the one goal.

Trine finishes the day 2-2-2 overall and in NCHA play. They will have to make a quick turnaround for their next game, which is scheduled for Tuesday, November 26 at 7:30 p.m. They are set to host Chatham University for the first of two games that day.
