BEREA, Ohio –
Drew Moore beat the halftime buzzer to cap off an 11-point first half performance enroute to an 18 point performance to lead the #1 Trine University Men's Basketball team to 78-49 road victory over Baldwin Wallace on Friday night. This was the Thunder's first road game of the season and are now 3-0 while the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-2.
Â
Aidan Smylie gave Trine an 8-7 lead with a layup just over 3 minutes into the game and the visitors would not trail again, as a 10-0 run left Trine with a 16-7 advantage.
Camden Smith netted six of his ten points in the first half. In the final minute of the frame he would make a layup before grabbing a steal with 29 seconds that would set up Moore to beat the buzzer and give the Thunder a 17 point halftime advantage.
Â
The early portion of the second half would see the Yellow Jackets cut the lead to 11 at 47-36. The teams would trade blows until the clock dipped under eight minutes to play. Moore then scored five points in a row to stretch the Thunder lead from 16 to 21. Smith and
Logan Gard made baskets to extend the lead to 73-48 with just three minutes remaining.
Â
Trine made 50% of their shots from the floor while the Thunder's suffocating defense allowed just 33.3% of BW's field goals to fall. Trine also held a 41-34 advantage on the glass. This was the eight meeting between the two programs, who have played in every season since 2016, sans the COVID-19 impacted 2020 campaign. Trine is now 4-4 against the Yellow Jackets. BW won the first four match ups and the Thunder have since taken the latter quartet.
Â

st at 7 p.m. before hosting Elmhurst on Saturday the 23
rd at 3:30 p.m. as part of a double header with the women's team.
