Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer falls to Calvin

ANGOLA, Ind. – Calvin scored two late goals to defeat the Trine University Women's Soccer team Tuesday night on Shive Field. The Knights scored goals in the 74th and 85th minute to claim the victory. The Knights are now 7-2-2 (3-0 MIAA) while Trine falls to 6-3-2 (1-1 MIAA).

Sophie Aschemeier made eight saves in goal as the Knights fired off 21 total shots in the match. Trine managed three shots, all were on goal but were stopped by Calvin's keeper. Each of Trine's shots came in the first half. Calvin had multiple breakaway opportunities in the first half but the Thunder defense was able to rally back and make a stand. Offensively, Trine had four corner opportunities in the first half, Erin Scully made a leaping header attempt at the third one, but the Knight's goalie was too quick and stopped it just before it reached the goal.

The second half started with a barrage of shots from the Knights, frantically trying to put one past Aschemeier, she stopped both attempts that were on target. The next 15 minutes was a physical battle in the defensive midfield as neither team was able to control the ball in an attacking position. Calvin was able to get a ball past the Thunder backline in the 74th minute and Shay Norden fired a shot too high for Aschemeier and the Knights were up 1-0. Trine then went on the offensive, making aggressive runs, deep into the Knights defense but Calvin prevented any shots from the Thunder. A second goal from Calvin in the 85th minute sealed the Thunder's fate.

Trine travels to Holland, Mich. Saturday October 12th to take on Hope. That game is set for a noon kickoff.
