Thunder Sweep Mount Mary, Moody Bible College in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE – The Trine University Women's Volleyball team rolled to sweeps of Mount Mary and Moody Bible College this afternoon in the Cream City. The Thunder opened the day with a sweep of Mount Mary, doubling down on last night's identical result. In the later game Trine cruised past Moody Bible College in straight sets. Trine hit over .300 in both matches. The Thunder are now 19-4 overall while Mount Mary falls to 3-18 and the Archers drop to 6-10.
 
Trine took game one over Mount Mary 25-19, 25-20, 25-7. Reese Steenwyk led the way with 10 kills and a pair of blocks. Sky Felber added three aces and Anna Zellers tallied 15 assists. As a team Trine had 13 aces.
 
In set one, Trine used a trio of Steenwyk spikes to take an 8-4 lead and kept the hosts at arms' length before the Blue Angels forced an 18-all tie. From there Trine closed with a 7-1 run and took set one.
 
The Blue Angels stormed out to a 16-7 lead in set two but Trine would dominate the rest of the way, Emmaline Leatherman drilled four kills, Cassidy Victor added three more and three different Thunder servers recorded an ace as Trine competed an improbable comeback with an 18-4 run.
 
Trine kept the momentum as set three started with an 8-2 run by the Thunder. Trine and Mount Mary swapped kills as Trine took a 14-7 advantage. Zellers assisted Steenwyk on two kills and Regan Nordmann on another before Felber notched three consecutive aces. Steenwyk sent home one final kill and Trine ended the match with an 11-0 run and took the victory.
 
Trine hit .373 in game two against Moody Bible College as the took the match in straight sets 25-11, 25-16, and 25-14. It was a team effort as no player recorded a double digit stat, as a team Trine had 38 kills and 35 were assisted, Trine served up eight aces.
 
Trine trailed 6-4 early in set one, the offense came alive as Madison Dominick sent home five consecutive kills, Julia Maggio got in on the action as she added four of her own. Leatherman added a block and put the cherry on top with a kill to take set one 25-11 as the Thunder hit a remarkable .536 for the set.
 
Trine took set two comfortably, jumping out to a 7-2 lead and leading by no less than four the rest of the way, enroute to a 25-16 victory.
 
Trine held a slim 11-9 lead in a tightly contested set three before Addyson Kuzma took over. Kuzma sparked 14-5 run to close the set with a pair of kills and three service aces. Trine took the set and the match 25-14 and 3-0.
 
The Thunder return to Hershey Hall on Saturday November 2nd where they resume MIAA action on senior day, hosting The University of Olivet at 1 p.m.
