ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University Volleyball Team swept the Kalamazoo Hornets 3-0 this morning inside Hershey Hall. The Thunder served up 12 aces and Catherine Dobies and Madison Dominick each added eight kills to lead the way. Trine is now 16-3 (3-1 MIAA) and K-Zoo falls to 6-15 (0-5 MIAA).
 
Dominick and Anna Zellers tallied ten of Trine's twelve aces, with five each. Zellers added a match high 21 assists. Emmaline Leatherman led the Thunder defense with five blocks.
 
Trine took the match 26-24, 25-13, and 25-23. Dominick continued her hot streak from Wednesday night in set one, drilling four of her eight kills, including three down the stretch to lead the Thunder comeback. Neither team led by more than three through the first set as the teams traded blows. Kalamazoo took late leads of 20-17 and 24-21. Down three late, Dominick stepped up for Trine registering three kills and two aces to lead furious 5-0 rally to overcome the latter deficit and take set one 26-24.
 
In set two Trine jumped out to an 8-2 lead early and never looked back as Dobies punched three kills and Zellers iced the set late with a trio of aces and assists, as Trine won convincingly, 25-13.
 
Trine looked as if they would continue the momentum from set two in set three, taking a 6-0 lead. Maya Toma and Leatherman teamed up for four kills as Trine took a 20-15 lead. The Hornets would have something to say about the sweep as they used an 8-2 run to take a 23-22 lead. Trine would respond with consecutive kills from Leatherman and Dominick before Dobies drilled her fifth kill of the set to take the set and the match.
 
Trine heads to Albion on Wednesday, October 23^rd for a match up with the Britons at 6:30 p.m.
