Men's Soccer Records Fourth MIAA Win

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's soccer team extended their winning streak to four straight with another come from behind victory, this time against The University of Olivet by the score of 2-1.

The Comets struck first in the contest, coming up with a goal in the 29th minute of play, on just their fourth shot of the half. Despite trailing the Thunder led the way with shots and shots on goal during the opening half.

They finally cashed in on the advantage in the waning minutes of the period. After drawing a foul in the penalty area, Luke Kearns took the opportunity for Trine. The senior went low and fast to the right side of the net to beat the keeper and knot the game at one.

The match started to get chippy after the goal. The Comets received the first yellow of the contest for some extracurricular activity following the home side's goal. The teams combined for 12 fouls in the first half and ultimately finished the day with 21 overall.

The Thunder didn't need long to break the tie in the second half. Out of the intermission, the team pressed an advantage in possession, pushing to the offensive end of the field. Braden Estep went high with a cross from the near sideline, even with the top of the six-yard box. Evan Komrska went over a defender to head it home for the 2-1 lead.

The Thunder held off a late push by Olivet to preserve the victory. Aidan McGonagle made a pair of saves, the second coming on a free kick opportunity from just outside of the 18-yard box. He finished the game with three saves and the win.

Trine improves to 6-6 overall and 4-0-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play following the win. They will remain at home for their next contest, hosting Adrian College on Wednesday, October 23. That match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
