ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's soccer team kept pace atop the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) with their fifth-straight victory, defeating visiting Adrian College by the score of 3-2.
In the early portion of the game, the teams traded an opening salvo each. The Bulldogs shot first getting an open look from just outside the 18-yard box but putting the shot high. The Thunder did the same a few minutes later before following up with two more shots, one to the right and one forcing the first save of the contest.
Adrian broke the tie in the 21
st minute when they worked their way behind the defense and created pressure on the Trine goal. That pressure forced an errant clear attempt by a Thunder defender, resulting in an own goal and the 1-0 lead for the visitors.
The lead was short lived, with the home side taking advantage of a free kick opportunity deep in the offensive zone.

The Thunder took a lead of their own in the waning minutes of the first half. This time
Djimo Kouyate came up with the goal after knifing his way through the heart of the defense to the left side of the goal. He fired his shot into the far side of the net, just inside the right woodwork.
The team built their lead again in the 53
rd minute of play. Kearns earned his second assist of the day with a pass into the center of the penalty area, where
Dalton Douglas was waiting to kick it home.
Adrian withstood a veritable onslaught over the next 20 minutes of the play and then countered on one of the Thunder attacks to cut the deficit back to one with 18 minutes remaining in the contest. Trine settled down again and held off any further push by the Bulldogs to secure the win 3-2.
Trine improves to 7-6-0 overall and 5-0-0 in MIAA play following the victory. They will take the pitch again on Saturday, October 26 when they travel to face Kalamazoo College for another MIAA match. That contest is scheduled for 7 p.m.
