Thunder Draw with Adrian

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University Women's Soccer team forced a 2-2 draw tonight on Shive Field against rival Adrian. The Thunder scored two second half goals and held the visitors scoreless over the final 35 minutes to clinch the tie. Trine is now 6-4-3 (1-2-1 MIAA) while Adrian is 8-2-1 (2-0-1 MIAA).

Adrian struck first just 1:08 into the contest with a goal from Ellise Fries. The early goal set the tone for the night as the teams registered 33 total shots with the Bulldogs holding a 17-16 advantage. The first half was an offensive onslaught from both teams, trading big runs up each sideline before firing off shots for most of the half. The Thunder's best opportunity came in the 45th minute when Abby Robison was able to get a shot on goal, but the Bulldogs keeper stopped the attempt, with 18 seconds remaining Erin Scully sent a shot too high.

The second half began with an extremely aggressive Thunder offense. Trine earned a corner kick just two minutes into the half. After wild sequence Robison was able to get ahold of the ball and find Bella Mabry who buried a shot low right to even the score at one. The Bulldogs would respond quickly in the 55th minute with a goal of their own, taking a 2-1 lead and putting the pressure back on the hosts. A physical defensive struggle was the theme of the next 20 minutes as the teams totaled five fouls and Adrian picked up two yellow cards.

A fast break up the near sideline from Mabry in the 77th minute resulted in a goal from Scully who took the ball just past midfield and made the Bulldogs' last defender miss, setting up a one on one opportunity with Adrian's keeper. Scully would not be denied a second time as the shot rocketed past the keeper and tied the match at 2. Neither team was able to break the tie through the remaining 13 minutes and the match ended in a draw.

Trine heads to Kalamazoo on Saturday October 19th for a matchup with the Hornets at 5 p.m.
