Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Estep Scores Twice in Win Over Alma

ALMA, Mich. – The Trine University men's soccer team remained perfect in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play with a commanding 2-0 victory over their hosts from Alma College. Braden Estep, who was announced as last week's MIAA Offensive Athlete of the Week during the game, scored both goals for the team in the win.

The first goal for the Thunder came in the 21st minute of play. Alma's keeper made a clear attempt that didn't make it to midfield, giving Luke Kearns the opportunity to regain possession for Trine. The senior caught the ball on the move and ran up the sideline jumping over a diving defender along his way to the corner. From there he made a pass through three defenders to the other side of the 18-yard box. Estep collected the ball and moved to his left before firing a shot to the back post.

The visiting side had a few more attempts in the first half, but the Scots defense held up and the score would remain 1-0 heading into the intermission.

It took just over ten minutes into the second period for the Thunder to build on their lead. Estep came up with a fifty-fifty ball at midfield and carried it forward ten yards before firing a deep pass toward the near corner. Ben Borak raced forward and settled the possession there before passing back toward the top of the penalty area. Estep crashed from the far side of the field back to the ball, carrying himself by a final defender and scoring off a deflected save attempt by the keeper.

The home team sold out for more offense after the second goal, and eventually forced a pair of saves from Aidan McGonagle, but neither team scored again, and the match went final with the 2-0 score.

Trine improves to 5-6 overall and 3-0 in MIAA play. They return home for their next contest, which is scheduled for Saturday, October 19 against The University of Olivet. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
