THUNDER SCORE RECORD SIX GOALS IN WIN

Box Score

ANGOLA, Ind. - It was record setting night for the Trine University women's soccer team and they rolled over Anderson University 6-2. The six goals scored by the Thunder are the most in a game since Trine joined the MIAA in 2004. The Thunder are now 2-1 on the season.

Trine's offense got going early in the first when sophomore Kayla Cochran (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison) took a goal kick from the left side that found the back of the net. A scramble in front of the goal, allow the ball to slide over the head of the Ravens goalkeeper.  Just eight minutes later, junior Ruth Feliciano (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) found the back of the net on a header off a crossing pass from sophomore Kristin Elliott (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster). Anderson would pull within a goal just two minutes later when a loose ball in the box found the goal.

Leading 2-1 at the half, Elliott and the Thunder wasted no time adding to their lead as she scored on her own header in the 57th minute off a corner kick from Cochran. Elliott would tally her second assists of the game when she found freshman Amy Williams (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) at the top of the box. Williams deked the Ravens defender and fired a shot just over the Anderson goalies head.

Not wanting to let up, the Thunder continued on the attack as sophomore Danielle Rueter (Harrison, Ohio/William Harry Harrison) took a breakaway and buried the ball in the left side of the net. Just four minutes later, it was senior Shelly Raupp (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) who found the back of the net after a scramble in the box for a loose ball.

Anderson added a goal with just five minutes remaining on a penalty kick.

In goal, senior Jen Wall (New Haven, Ind./New Haven) earned the win playing the first 77 minutes. Sophomore Kate Wegert (Elmore, Ohio/Woodmore) came on in relief for the final 13 minutes making one save.

Elliott finished the night with four points (goal and two assists) to become just the second player in the last two years to finish with four points. Elliott also becomes just the second player with two assists in a game since 2008, the other was Nikki Dixon in 2010 against Franklin College.

Trine will return to action on Friday, September 9 as they travel to Franklin College for a 7:00 p.m. start.
