Bowman Leads Women's Soccer to Semifinals

ANGOLA, Ind. – Kamryn Bowman dished out two assists and added a goal of her own to lead the Trine University women's soccer team to the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament. The Thunder (8-6-4, 4-3-1 MIAA) claimed a convincing 4-1 win over Albion College (9-7-1, 4-3-1 MIAA) on Saturday night on Shive Field.

Trine limited Albion to just three shots on goal and held a 16-11 advantage in shots overall. Four Thunder scored in the match, Reagan Vokal had a goal and an assist while Gracie Pyle and Paige Steffke scored the other two goals. Johannah Houtkooper made two saves in goal.

The Thunder struck in the 15th minute, Ava Leihgeber played a ball up the near sideline to Kamryn Bowman who crossed the ball from the right side of the goal to the middle of the goal box to the awaiting right foot of Pyle who tapped the ball into the goal. Bowman added her goal in the 31st minute. Trine earned a corner opportunity but the Britons were able to clear the ball. On the reset, Vokal fired a pass into the box that Elly McClelland passed to Bowman for another tap in goal.

Trine wasted no time building on their 2-0 halftime lead. This time the corner attempt was successful; Steffke sent the ball into the box where Bowman would return the favor to Vokal for a tap in goal of her own. Albion were able to get on the board in the 52nd minute to prevent the shutout. Steffke reestablished the three goal lead in the 58th minute. The junior fired a shot from well outside the penalty box to the top corner of the far side of the Britons' goal. The shot was placed nearly perfectly, flying past a leaping keeper and into the corner of the goal, banking off the cross bar.

The Thunder held off the Britons over the final 32 minutes to earn a spot in the MIAA Semifinals on Wednesday night at Calvin University. The match is set for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
