Ryan Kuhn became the fourth head coach in program history in August of 2021. Now heading into his sixth season, Kuhn has cemented himself into the program record book. During just his fifth season he became the winningest coach in program history by surpassing 50 wins in his career.
The turnaround in the program came immediately with the Thunder posting a 9-5 record during the 2022 campaign, a four-win improvement over the previous year. Since then, Kuhn has had just one losing season as the head coach. While racking up a record of 53-31.
The team took another step up in 2025, shattering the program record for wins in a season with a 14-6 record. Despite finishing fifth in the conference standings, the team won two road playoff games to reach their first ever MIAA Championship Game.
In 2026 the team matched their win total with a 14-5 record, finishing fourth in the MIAA Standings and hosting their first MIAA Tournament contest, a quarterfinal victory over Kalamazoo.
Student-athletes coached by Kuhn have received seven All-MIAA selections, including one first team honoree. He has had five selected as USILA Scholar All-Americans.
Following the 2026 season, Kuhn was selected to serve as the head coach of the North Team at the USILA Senior All-Star game. He took a pair of assistants and student-athletes J’Oshua Shaw and Danny Kelly, the first members of the program to compete in the All-Star game.
Prior to Trine, Kuhn was at Heidelberg University where he served as head coach of the women’s program, a position which he held for one season. During that season he led the team to a 4-0 record before the season was cut short due to the outbreak of Covid-19.
Before taking the reins at Heidelberg, Kuhn spent a season as an assistant coach at Shoreham Wading River High School where he led the team to a New York State Championship, finishing 13th in the country and second among public school competition.
Kuhn established the lacrosse program at NCAA Division II Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn. In just four years, Kuhn led the Railsplitters from an inaugural season to a national contender. In his final season as head coach (2018), the team finished 14-4 breaking into the national rankings.
In his four seasons Kuhn coached 14 student-athletes to All-South Atlantic Conference honors, including 11 over his final two seasons alone. He finished the four-year tenure with a 32-27 record.
Kuhn received an MBA from Lincoln Memorial University in 2017 and completed his undergraduate degree at Manhattanville College in 2007. He resides in Bryan, Ohio with his wife Rachelle and daughters Riley and Rowan.
