CHICAGO – The Trine University volleyball team closed out its opening weekend with a loss to the University of Chicago. The Maroons (4-0) are receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll, Trine falls to 1-2 with the loss.
Elli Baker led the offense with eight kills.
UC took the match 25-15, 25-14, 25-16 and limited the Thunder to just .041 hitting.
The Thunder started fast in the first set, scoring their first three points on offense. The Maroons responded with a dominant effort to take the set. Trine again held tough in the early portion of the second set, a 14-2 run by Chicago would halt the momentum and give the hosts set two. Trine again led early in set three before a run from the nationally recognized Maroons took the match.
Trine will travel to Columbus, Ohio next weekend for four matches at Capital University and Otterbein University.
