ANGOLA, Ind. – The nationally ranked North Central Cardinals proved to be too much for the Trine University women's soccer team on Saturday night at Zollner Stadium. The Thunder (1-3-3) held an 11-5 advantage in shots over their 18
th-ranked guests.
The Thunder pressured the Cardinals from the start, firing off four shots in the first six minutes, forcing two saves. The Thunder possessed the ball for nearly two-thirds of the first half, with their best scoring chances coming in the 22
nd and 27
th minutes.
Erin Scully headed a ball toward the goal off a corner kick but was turned away by the Cardinals keeper.
Ava Leihgeber took a shot in the 27
th minute from the far corner of the goal box and forced an incredible leaping save from North Central.
NCC got on the board in the 32
nd minute with a goal that found the center of Trine's goal courtesy of a pass rocketed to the front of the goal past multiple defenders. The Cardinals added a final goal in the 89
th minute to seal the win.
The Thunder travel to Manchester University on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
