ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's soccer team had an early push but were ultimately defeated by DePauw University in the first contest of the season. The Tigers added a late goal to take the match 2-0.
The Thunder came up with the first scoring chance of the game when Brayden Macy forced a save in the fourth minute of the game. DePauw answered eight minutes later, before taking the lead with a goal in the 21st minute.
Tyler Niemi, Jonah Sipes and Bryan Rodriguez each recorded shots in the rest of the half, but none ended up on goal. The 1-0 score held into the intermission.
The Tigers dominated possession in the first part of the second half, but the defense held, led by Brandon Walker who finished the game with three saves.
Camden Prather and Salvatore Orlandi both had shots on goal in the second, but Trine failed to find the back of the net. A final goal by DePauw sealed the result at 2-0.
The Thunder will head on the road to face Beloit College on Saturday, September 5. That match is set to start at 2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. CT.
