Hannah Flores Ness clears the bar in high jump

Puckett, Flores Ness, Andrews Claim Event Titles, Lead Women's Track and Field at MIAA Championships

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Trine University women's track and field team finished third at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships this afternoon at Hope College.
 
Trine placed third with 151 points, well ahead of the rest of the competition. Calvin University claimed the team title with 258 points while Hope College was second with 234 points. Albion College took fourth with 45 points while Adrian College rounded out the top five. Alma College, The University of Olivet, and Kalamazoo College completed the field.
 
Bailey Puckett led the Thunder with a pair of event wins. The senior All-American won event titles in the 800-meter and 1500-meter runs in times of 2:15.39 and 4:39.68. The 800-meter crown is Puckett's seventh MIAA Championship. She then ran the third leg on the Thunder's 4x400-meter relay team that placed third in 4:03.36, the third fastest time in program history.
 
Hannah Flores Ness won the high jump with a school record effort of 1.62 meters/5' 3.75" and took fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal best of 15.10 seconds. That mark is third best in program history.
 
Olivia Andrews won her third consecutive pole vault title, clearing a height of 3.55 meters/11' 7.75". Avery Boyce and Kelah Hodge tied for sixth clearing 3.00m/9' 10".
 
Also on the 4x4 were Kaylee Birely, Alyssa Possehn, and Ariana Todd. Birely took sixth place in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.51. Todd was seventh in the 200-meter dash and claimed another bronze in the 4x100-meter relay in 48.93 seconds. Aniyah Small, Sophia Peter, and Emma Heintzelman ran on the one lap relay. Small placed fifth in the 200-meters while Todd was seventh and Peter was fifth in the 100-meters in 12.58 seconds.
 
Taryn Pratt took fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:19.02.
 
Eleanor Young and Courtney Study were fourth and seventh in the 1500-meters.
 
Mia Griesmeyer took fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase and sixth in the 5000-meters. Young was fourth and Grace Dubsky took seventh. Dubsky also competed in the 10,000-meters where she took third place behind teammate Chloe Goodrich who finished second.
 
Brooklyn Kerry earned a pair of MIAA medals in the long and triple jumps. She finished third in the long jump with a 5.42m/17' 9.5" effort. She added a hop and a skip to her jump to finish second. The leap measured 11.74m/38' 6.25". Emmaline Leatherman joined Kerry on the podium in the triple jump in fifth place and Emma Forker was sixth in the long jump.
 
Olivia Foster took fourth in the javelin throw with a toss of 30.60 meters/100' 4".
 
The Thunder now turn their attention to NCAA Championships qualifying marks over the next two weeks. The top 22 performers in each event and top 16 relays will qualify for the championships hosted by Wisconsin-La Crosse on May 21-23.
