COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. – The Trine University baseball team fell to Calvin University 8-0 on Thursday night at LMCU Ballpark. The Thunder (8-30, 4-15 MIAA) recorded three hits in the loss. Calvin moves to 16-22 (7-12 MIAA) with the win.
LMCU Ballpark is home to the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Midwest League, the High-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.
Calvin scored twice in the second and once in the third.
Kai Jones led off the fourth with a double but was unable to find home plate before the Knights retired the side.
In the ninth,
Spencer Rodriguez earned first base with a hit by pitch walk,
Cole Temple reached on four consecutive balls before
Kyle Martin singled to load the bases. The Knights struck out the final two batters to seal the win.
The Thunder host Calvin in a doubleheader tomorrow to close out the season with senior day ceremonies following the second game. Game one is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
