ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University baseball team fell to the Albion College Britons on Sunday afternoon in 10 innings by a score of 8-5.
William Taczak led the Thunder (8-29, 4-14 MIAA) with three hits and an RBI. Albion moves to 21-16 (9-9 MIAA).
Dylan Jenkins had a quality outing for the Thunder with 6.2 innings of work allowing three hits and two earned runs.
Trine fell behind 1-0 in the first inning before regaining the lead in the home half of the inning with RBIs from
Kai Jones and
Nathan Gilmet. The Thunder rebuilt the lead in the fifth inning after the Britons tied the game at a pair a piece.
William Taczak placed a well hit ball down the left field line for an RBI triple. A passed ball helped the Thunder build a 4-2 advantage.
Albion scored the next three runs to put the pressure on the Thunder in the bottom of the ninth.
Brody Bond responded with an RBI double that would force extra innings for the second time in the three-game series. Albion posted three runs in the tenth inning before retiring the Thunder in order in the bottom half to take the win.
Trine will close out their season next week with an exhibition contest at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne against Manchester University on Wednesday before their final MIAA series against Calvin on Thursday and Friday. Friday's double header will begin at 1 p.m. and will be senior day.
