ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's lacrosse team will advance to the semifinal round of the 2026 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament Presented by Collegiate Credit Union after defeating Kalamazoo College 12-4.
The game didn't start well for the Thunder with the Hornets scoring the only two goals of the first quarter and taking a 2-0 lead into the first break of the day.
The team rallied in the second, scoring three straight in the opening six minutes to take their first lead of the game. Mitchell Voglewede scored first with an assist by Rocco Curatola. Curatola scored next before Voglewede got the third with an assist by Riley Fischer. The final goal of the half went to the visitors making the score 3-3 at half.
Curatola scored two more in the third with J'Oshua Shaw and Chris Molnar adding one each to begin to pull away on the scoreboard. The team took a 7-3 lead into the final quarter of play.
Trine scored five more goals in the fourth while allowing one to finish the game with the 12-4 win. Voglewede scored two more in the quarter, while assisting on another. JJ Boos, Will Gonia and Fischer each added one goal to round out the tally.
The big story of the quarter was Vin Pantano who assisted on three goals. Those were historic assists, bringing his season total to 34 surpassing the program's season record of 32 along the way.
Defensively, Luke Arnold led the effort from the net. He finished the game with the win and eight saves while allowing just four goals. In front of him three members of the team had two caused turnovers including Mason Kaufman, Eiji Minobe and Shaw. Shaw also led the way with nine groundballs. Minobe was second with six.
Nick Fariello led the game on faceoffs. He finished the game 11-of-16. He also finished with five groundballs.
The Thunder improve to 14-4 overall after the victory. They advance to the semifinals of the tournament and will face top-seeded Hope College for the second year in a row. The contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28.
