OLIVET, Mich. – The Trine University men's tennis team finished the regular season with a convincing 7-0 victory over their hosts from The University of Olivet.
The Thunder opened the day with three doubles wins and the first team point. The teams of Drew Hackney and Emmett Wirth in the No. 2 match and Landon Bassett and Asher Monson in the No. 3 match both won 6-2. Andrew Spirrison and Sammy Yin took the top match 6-1.
Hackney swept the top singles match to start the second half strong. Monson finished second with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 6 match. Both Yin in the No. 2 match and Leyton Byler in the No. 4 match won with scores of 6-1, 6-2. Spirrison finished in the same number of games with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 3 match. Wirth finished the sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 5 match.
Trine finishes the regular season 14-6 overall and 4-3 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play. They are locked into the fourth spot in the standings despite being the only team done with their conference slate. They will host the opening round of the 2026 MIAA Men's Tennis Tournament on Monday, April 27. Their opponent is yet to be determined.
