Men's Volleyball Ends Season in MCVL Semifinals

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Trine University men's volleyball team bowed out of the MCVL Tournament on Friday afternoon with a loss to Calvin University. The third seeded Knights (21-4, 7-2 MCVL) swept the Thunder (17-9, 8-1 MCVL) 3-0. The loss ended Trine's nine-game winning streak, the third longest in program history.

Johnson-Kuhao Ho'okano-Pelekai led Trine with 10 kills, 10 digs, and three blocks. Fellow MCVL first teamer Karl Both added seven kills. Calvin won the match 25-22, 25-17, 25-23.

Trine capitalized on five service errors from the Knights and a pair of kills from Ho'okano-Pelekai to tie the first set at 11. Calvin took the lead for good with a 4-0 run, Trine got within two four times but were not able to get any closer and Calvin took the set.

Trine again capitalized on some Calvin errors in the second set and led 6-5. The Knights offense eventually caught fire and rallied back to win 25-17.

Trine would not go quietly, scoring seven of its first 10 points by kill in set three and leading by as many as six. The Knights were methodical, chipping away slowly at Trine's lead, tying the set twice before scoring five of the last six points for the win.

This concludes the Thunder's season. Trine claimed it's first MCVL Regular Season Championship this season with an 8-1 mark in league play.
