ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's lacrosse team opened Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play with a convincing 16-7 win over Albion on Wednesday afternoon.
Erin Fariello,
Izabelle Dominski, and
Sydney Weiss each netted four goals to lead the Thunder (6-3, 1-0 MIAA). Albion falls to 2-7 (0-1 MIAA).
Fariello won six draw controls along with
Elizabeth Larson and scooped four ground balls.
Kelsey Yanagihara made 10 saves in goal. Trine outshot the Britons 34-22 and 24-16 on target.
Trine set the tone early with a pair of advantage goals from
Sydney Strolberg and Larson. The Thunder took advantage of seven Briton cards and six turnovers in the first quarter as they built a 7-0 lead. Weiss and Fariello scored twice each, once at even strength and once on the advantage. Dominski added the other goal.
Trine kept the pedal down in the second quarter with a 6-2 advantage on the scoreboard. Dominski, Weiss, and Fariello each completed their hat trick, Weiss added her second assist on Dominski's second goal.
Trine extended the 13-3 lead to 15-3 in the early portion of the third quarter. Dominski assisted
Isabel Fischer for Trine's lone goal of the fourth quarter.
Trine hosts Calvin University on Saturday as they continue MIAA action.
