ORLANDO, Fla. – The Trine University men's tennis team dropped their final contest of spring break by a razor thin margin. The final score favored Allegheny College 5-2, but five matches featured tiebreakers of some kind.
The Gators took all three of the doubles matches to put the Thunder down 1-0 early. Two of those matches featured a tiebreaker, including the No. 2 pairing of Drew Hackney and Emmett Wirth and the No. 3 team of Landon Bassett and Asher Monson.
Monson was responsible for the first team point for Trine, winning the No. 6 match 7-6(7-4), 6-2. Wirth secured the second in the No. 5 match, but needed a super tiebreaker to do so. He had final scores of 6-3, 4-6, 10-6. Andrew Spirrison nearly had another point for the team but fell in the super tiebreaker at No. 3. He had scores of 7-5, 2-6, 7-10.
The Thunder finish the day 9-2 overall. They will next take the courts when they host Manchester University on Wednesday, March 11. That match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
