ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's tennis team defeated Manchester University in convincing fashion with a final score of 7-0. The win marks another milestone for head coach Erin Kolar who now boasts 200 wins between the men's and women's programs.
The Thunder opened the day with a convincing sweep of the doubles matches. The No. 3 pair of Leyton Byler and Alex Flores won in straight games with a score of 6-0. Just behind them was Asher Monson and Landon Bassett who won the No. 2 match 6-1. Drew Hackney and Andrew Spirrison won the top match 6-2.
Trine took the rest of the team points with similarly lopsided victories during the singles portion of the match. Lucas Shaw had the quickest victory with a sweep in the No. 6 match, but Hackney was just one game behind with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the top match. Monson won the No. 3 match 6-1, 6-1 and Bassett took the No. 4 match 6-2, 6-0. Byler won at No. 2 with scores of 6-2, 6-2 and Flores was the final match down with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5.
The Thunder improve to 10-2 overall following the win. They will next take the courts when they host the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday, March 21. That dual is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
