ALBION, Mich. – The Trine University men's tennis team picked up another victory, defeating their hosts from Albion College 6-1.
The Thunder opened the dual by taking all three of the doubles matches to secure the first point of the match. The top pair of Andrew Spirrison and Sammy Yin along with the No. 3 team of Landon Bassett and Asher Monson each won 6-2. Drew Hackney and Emmett Wirth needed a few more games but ultimately won 7-5 in the No. 2 match.
Trine finished the day with five of six singles matches. Hackney and Yin took the top two matches with scores of 6-0, 6-3. Leyton Byler followed up by taking the No. 4 match 6-4, 6-3. Spirrison needed a tiebreaker in his first set but won 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 in the No. 3 match. Bassett finished off the day with a 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 victory in the No. 6 match.
The team finishes the day 12-3 overall and 2-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play. They are next scheduled to take to the courts when they host Kalamazoo College on Saturday, April 4. That dual is set to start at 11 a.m.
