ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's tennis team ran away from the visiting Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, defeating them by the score of 7-0.
The Thunder took two of three doubles matches to earn the first point of the day. Elina Locane and Alexis Maloney won the top match in straight games, 6-0. Emilee Bassett and Emily Hatseras followed up in the No. 2 match with a 6-2 victory.
It took three super tiebreakers by Trine won all six singles matches to secure the dual sweep. Locane did not need any tiebreakers, winning the top match in straight games, 6-0, 6-0. Bassett at No. 3 and Maloney in the No. 4 match were just behind her winning 6-0, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-3 respectively.
Beehler went to the first super of the day, she came back from a loss in the first set to win 1-6, 6-4, 10-5. Avery Elsworth won the sixth match, also coming back from a first set loss, winning 4-6, 6-2, 10-6. Hatseras won the marathon match of the day, taking the No. 5 match 3-6, 7-6(7-5), 10-4.
Trine is now 12-1 after the victory. They will start Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play when they host Adrian College on Saturday, March 28. That dual is set to begin at 2 p.m.
