ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's tennis team won their first match of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) portion of their schedule, defeating visiting Adrian College 6-1.
The Thunder barely missed out on a sweep of the doubles portion of the contest, but still took the first team point with the two victories. Emma Beehler and Addison Lockwood had the quickest win, taking a 6-1 victory in the third match. Emilee Bassett and Emily Hatseras won the No. 2 match 6-3. The top pair of Elina Locane and Alexis Maloney forced a tiebreaker but fell 6-7 (6-8).
Locane and Maloney both avenged their loss during the singles portion of the contest. Locane took the top match 6-2, 6-3 while Maloney won in the No. 4 match 7-5, 6-0. The most convincing win came in the No. 3 match where Bassett won 6-1, 6-1. The No. 5 match went just one more game with Hatseras winning 6-2, 6-1.
Avery Elsworth finished off the day with a 6-4, 6-3 win in the No. 6 match.
Trine improves to 13-1 overall and 1-0 in MIAA play. They will continue their season when they travel to face Albion College on Wednesday, April 1. That dual is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
