Men's Basketball Thunders by Britons

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's basketball team picked up a 74-58 win over Albion College on Wednesday night. Cade Brenner led Trine (15-5, 7-2 MIAA) with 16 points and five rebounds as the Thunder completed the season sweep of the Britons (11-9, 4-5 MIAA).

Jayden Bradshaw and Elias Lewis added 15 and 13 points while Logan McKenzie dished out four assists. Trine connected on 26-of-32 free throws in the physical contest.

Trine led 14-10 just past the halfway mark as the defenses ruled the early portion of the game. Danny Flood jumpstarted the Thunder with back-to-back triples to push the lead to eight. That started a 19-6 run by Trine, Cade Brenner and Elias Lewis each made a pair of tough layups and Lewis capped the run with a triple from McKenzie. Trine led 33-20 at the half.

Albion cut into the lead early in the second half, pulling as close as 35-26. Trine answered with a 10-2 run backed by a pair of threes from Brenner. Albion committed its seventh team foul less than seven minutes into the half and put Trine in the bonus early. The Thunder attempted 28 of their 32 free throws in the second half and made 22 of them. Paxton Crane made five of six, Brenner made six of seven, Jayden Bradshaw made nine of thirteen and Drew Panning made all four of his. Nate Tucker made his pair from the stripe and has missed just once from the line in conference play and ranks fourth nationally in free throw percentage.

Brenner was fouled on three pointer as time expired on the shot clock and earned all three points at the stripe to give Trine a 60-44 lead. Elisha Jones drove through the lane for a lay in and Flood delivered the dagger with two minutes left as he connected from deep to put Trine ahead by 14.

Trine heads to Adrian College on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. tilt with the Bulldogs.
