Trine Set To Host Four MIAA Championship Events this Week

ANGOLA, Ind. – Trine University will be the site of four Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship events this week. A successful winter sports season is coming to a close as Trine is set to compete for MIAA titles in men's and women's basketball and men's and women's track and field.

Men's Basketball starts the action on Tuesday evening, hosting Albion College in the MIAA Quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m. The Thunder wrapped up the regular season 18-7 overall with a 10-4 mark in conference play. Trine earned the #4 seed in the program's 15th consecutive MIAA Tournament appearance. The men's track and field team is in search of their 7th consecutive indoor MIAA crown and 12th consecutive title. Trine is currently ranked 3rd in the MIAA in this week's United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Track and Field Rating Index (TFRI). Trine has 11 athletes ranked inside the top 3 in the MIAA in various events.
 
The women's track and field team is seeking their first MIAA title since 2022 and third overall. The Thunder rank 2nd in this week's USTFCCCA Conference TFRI. The women's team also has 11 athletes ranked inside the conferences top 3. The top 3 finishers in each event at the conference championships earn All-MIAA status.
 
The MIAA Championships are moving to a two day format this year. Competition will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday. Women's Basketball has claimed its second consecutive outright MIAA Regular Season Championship. Trine posted a 21-4 record and a 15-1 mark in conference play to earn the league's #1 overall seed. Trine will host the semifinals and finals of the MIAA Tournament inside the MTI Center. The semifinals begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday with Hope College playing the winner of Tuesday night's contest between Albion and Kalamazoo. Trine will take on Albion or Adrian in the second game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. or 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. The MIAA Championship will be played on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
