Baseball Opener Spoiled by Colonels

DANVILLE, Ky. – #17 Centre College played spoiler in the Trine University baseball team's season opener on Friday night. The Colonels (2-1) downed the Thunder 16-1 in seven innings. Luke Burford scored the run for the Thunder (0-1).
 
The run came in the third inning, Burford singled up the middle and advanced on a walk. Kyle Martin got the RBI with a single to left field to break up the shut out bid. The Colonels responded with six runs in the bottom half of the inning to lead 12-1. Centre added two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Trine had a bases loaded opportunity in the seventh but were unable to capitalize.
 
The Thunder will play a double header against Centre tomorrow. First pitch is schedule for noon.
