GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –
Bailey Puckett dropped the third fastest time in Division III on Friday night;
Kaylee Birely,
Alyssa Possehn,
Emma Heintzelman, and
Ariana Todd took down the school record in the 4x400 relay to lead the Trine University women's track and field team at the two-day Grand Valley State Big Meet. The meet did not keep team scores and featured more than 90 schools from all divisions of the NCAA as well as NAIA and NJCAA schools.
Puckett finished sixth in the mile and was the top Division III competitor, her time of 4:49.53 is the second best in program history behind only Evie Miller (Bultemeyer). Puckett also set a personal best in the 3000-meters on Saturday, she finished in 9:56.90 a time that also ranks second all-time.
Birely, Possehn, Heintzelman, and Todd crossed in 4:01.88 shaving nearly four seconds off the previous school record that had stood since 2018. Birely became the fifth woman to break the one-minute mark in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 59.75 seconds.
Eleanor Young placed 16
th in the same race, becoming the third woman in program history to break 5 minutes in the mile. Her personal best time of 4:57.87 ranks 32
nd in Division III. Young also doubled back in the 3000 meters on Saturday with a seventh place finish.
Olivia Andrews placed sixth in the pole vault on Friday, clearing 3.28 meters/10' 9".
Halle Overmire and
Taryn Pratt added two marks to the Trine record book, Overmire is now fourth all-time in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:18.96 and Pratt is sixth at 2:19.41.
Brooklyn Kerry placed eighth in the long jump, leaping 5.18 meters/17'.
Trine travels to Hillsdale College on Saturday for one final tune-up before the MIAA Championships.
