Women's Hockey Stumped by Bulldogs

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's hockey team found themselves outmatched in their first game against nationally ranked Adrian College. The Bulldogs, who are top ten in both national polls, won the game 10-0.

The visitors scored the first and ultimately game winning goal in the 35th second of the contest on a breakaway opportunity. They went on to net five goals in the first period, before scoring three more in the second and two in the third.

Totals for shots on goal favored Adrian heavily in the first and second period. In the third the Thunder started to show some life tallying 11 shots on net to 17 from the opposition. In total the Bulldogs had 45 shots on goal to the Thunder's 22.

Zsuzsa Révész started the game in net but left after the first period with 12 saves. Abby Hargrave-Thomas played the final two periods finishing with 23 saves. Both goalies gave up five goals.

Cassandra Biblow led the team with five shots on goal. Dorka Gengeliczky and Aleah Bienek both had three.

The Thunder fall to 7-15-2 overall and 3-13-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play. The good news for the team comes from the other series that matters for the team's chances at securing the final spot in the Slaats Cup Playoffs. Aurora University defeated the University of Dubuque 4-3 earlier this evening, keeping Trine one point ahead of Dubuque in the standings.

The regular season concludes tomorrow, Saturday, February 14 when the Thunder return the trip to Adrian. That game is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. The battle of the Spartans finishes tomorrow as well, with opening puck drop scheduled for 3 p.m. CT / 4 p.m. ET. Trine needs to be ahead of Dubuque in the standings for the final spot, with tiebreakers favoring the Spartans.
